Bangladesh’s stocks turn into negative at midday Wednesday

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh’s stocks turned into negative at midday on Wednesday as cautious investors started to book profit on sector-wise issues.

After hitting fresh high of the prime index of the major bourse in the previous day, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened optimistic amid rising trading activities.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced nearly 25 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse rose 30 points at 10:15am.

After 30 minutes of trading, DSEX advanced more than 26 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse gained 33 points at 11:00am.

However, after 11:30am, the market started to decline.

After 90 minutes of trading, DSEX, the prime index of the DSE fell more than 3.0 points, while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse lost 35 points when the report was filed at 12:00 noon.

DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE
DSEX, the prime index of the DSE stands at 6,081 points, losing 3.40 points or 0.06 percent at 12:00 noon.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, however, stayed positive trend till then, advancing 2.52 points or 0.11 percent to reach at 2160 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 4.15 points or 0.31 percent to reach at 1,338 points.

Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stands at BDT 6.15 billion, when the report was filed at 12:00 noon.

Bank sector led the turnover chart with National Bank topped the chart till then with shares worth BDT 339 million changing hands, closely followed by IFIC Bank BDT 243 million, Premier Bank BDT 198 million, Exim Bank BDT 183 million and City Bank BDT 176 million.

Of the issues traded till then, 147 advanced, 128 declined and 36 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE
The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw downward trend with its Selective Category Index – CSCX –losing 35 points to stand at 11,386 points, also at 12:00 noon.

Of the issues traded till then, 66 gained, 110 declined and 29 issues remained unchanged with BDT 250 in turnover.
