Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): Stocks edged marginally lower on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) on Tuesday with declining turnover value amid countrywide third day hartal enforced by main opposition BNP.

The General Index of the DSE—-DGEN—ended at 3,963.25 points after losing 19.23 points or 0.48 per cent.

The DSE Broad Index (DSEX), the benchmark index of the DSE went down by 10.08 points or 0.25 per cent to close at 3,884.50 points. The DSE-30 Index (DS30) closed 0.04 points or 0.02 per cent to close at 1,409.67.

The turnover on the premier bourse stood at BDT 2.03 billion, down by 25.64 per cent from previous session’s BDT 2.73 billion.

Of the 271 issues traded on the premier bourse, 92 advanced, 158 declined and 21 remained unchanged.

Summit Purbanchol Power Company topped the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 64.65 million changing hands. Golden Harvest Agro Industries, United Airways, Pubali Bank and Argon Denims were next popular stocks.

Eastland Insurance was the day’s top gainer, posting a rise of 6.49 per cent following its corporate declaration of 30 per cent stock dividend.

The Golden Harvest Agro Industries, which made debut Monday, came to as day’s worst loser for second day trading and lost 14.92 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed negative with the Selective Categories Index of the CSE lost 34.92 points to close at 7,705.67 points.

Of the 172 issues traded on the port city bourse, 41 advanced, 117 declined and 14 remained unchanged. A total of 7.69 million shares and mutual fund units were traded, generating BDT 230.23 million in turnover.
