Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks witnessed upward trend in early hour of trading on Wednesday as some investors are showing buying spree on sector-wise stocks.

Following the previous day’s flat movement, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened higher amid rising trading activities.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced more than 22 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse rose 43 points at 10:45am when the report was filed.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) organise a weeklong event to celebrate its silver jubilee that started from today.

Due to the BSEC’s silver jubilee program, the management of both bourses extended trading hours by 30 minutes only for today (Wednesday).

The trading opened at 10:30am and will be continued till 3:00pm today (Wednesday).


DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 22 points or 0.40 percent to reach at 5,566 points at 10:45am.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also gained 4.65 points to reach at 1,943 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose 5.74 points to reach at 1,277 points till then.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at BDT 685 million when the report was filed at 10:45am.

Of the issues traded till then, 134 advanced, 31 declined and 36 remained unchanged.

Khulna Power was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth BDT 160 million changing hands, followed by National Life Insurance BDT 74 million, Active Fine Chemicals BDT 41 million, BBS cables BDT 33 million and Nahee Aluminum BDT 31 million.


The port city’s bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw positive trend till then with CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI – gaining 43 points to stand at 17,138, also at 10:45am.

The Selective Category Index – CSCX – also advanced 26 points to stand at 10,387 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 26 gained, 05 declined and 07 issues remained unchanged with BDT 10 million in turnover.
