Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Atiur Rahman has asked all the commercial banks to come forward to promote e-commerce and facilitate different potential cluster industries like handicraft in the country.

Addressing an MoU signing ceremony as the chief guest in a city hotel on Wednesday, the central bank governor also assured the banks of all out support in this connection.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to properly run and manage an e-shop, which was set up with National Bank Ltd (NBL)'s CSR fund worth about BDT 0.65 million in Jamalpur in order to widely introduce and sell the district's famous handicraft products.

NBL, Jamalpur District Handicraft Association and Future Solution for Business (FSB), technical assistance provider and manager of the Jamalpur e-shop centre, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisation.

In the district, NBL earlier also gave SME loan worth BDT 75.7 million among 531 handicraft entrepreneurs, 524 of them are women, till March, 2013.

Presided over by Neaz Ahmed, Managing Director and CEO of the NBL, the ceremony was also addressed by AKM Shafiqur Rahman, Deputy Managing Director of the NBL.
