Banks asked to ensure cash at ATMs, POS round the clock

Last updated: July 28, 2014

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The central bank of Bangladesh has asked the commercial banks to make sure cash is available round-the-clock at all ATMs (Automated Teller Machine) and POS (Point of Sale) points during the Eid holiday.

"The central bank has taken the measures to ensure the electronic transactions particularly during the Eid-ul-Fitr vacation," a senior official of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) told BBN in Dhaka.

Such transactions normally increase significantly during the weekend and other holidays, according to the central banker.

The scheduled banks will remain closed from July 28 to July 30 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the greatest religious festival for Muslims.

The BB earlier asked the banks to take adequate security measures at their ATM booths for avoiding any unwanted incident.
The central bank issued a circular to this effect Sunday.

The banks have been asked to make available cash at ATM booths all time, the central bank said in a circular, issued on Sunday.

Currently, more than 5,000 ATM booths are now in operation across the country.  Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL) alone operates nearly 2,900 of them.

Besides, the DBBL operates around 500 'Fast Track', each having at least 4 ATM machines, a bank official said.
The circular also said the banks must display notice in front of the closed or inoperative ATM booths.

Besides, if the services of ATM and POS of any bank remained closed for unavoidable circumstances, they must have to inform the clients instantly.
