Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The central bank has directed all commercial banks to freeze the bank accounts of Railways Minister Suranjit Sengupta’s Assistant Personal Secretary (APS) Omar Faruq and his wife Marjia Farhana. 
The Bangladesh Bank (BB) also asked the banks to submit details of their bank accounts within the next seven days, a BB senior official told BBN in Dhaka on Sunday, adding that the central bank issued directive in this connection.
He also said the BB after the investigation would refer the case to the Anti-Corruption Commission for actions as per money laundering laws, he said.
On April 11 night, Faruq’s driver Ali Azam suddenly entered the Border Guard Bangladesh headquarters in the capital and pulled up the vehicle near the main entrance sometimes later.
He shouted that there was illegal money inside the car, drawing the attention of the BGB men and leading to the detention of all four, including himself, for hours before their release on verification of their identifies the next day.
The APS, Bangladesh Railway General Manager (East) Yusuf Ali Mridha and Railway’s Divisional Security Commandant Enamul Huq were on the vehicle.
