Last updated: October 27, 2011
Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The central bank has asked the commercial banks to install fake note detectors at cattle markets across the country to check use of forged bank notes ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha festival, officials said on Thursday.
“We’ve sent a letter to the chief executive officers of all commercial banks, the branch offices of the central bank and deputy commissioner offices across the country in this connection,” a senior official of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) told
He also said the central bank has decided to provide fake note detection machines to the law enforcing agencies soon to check use of fake bank notes.
The fake not detectors will also be installed in villages where there are big cattle markets, he added.
On October 19, plainclothes police arrested seven people, including a woman, with huge fake notes during an overnight drive in the city and its adjacent areas.
Three alleged members of a forged currency note-making syndicate were arrested in the city’s Uttara area on August 23.
