Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Commercial banks in the readymade garment (RMG) belts at Gazipur, Narayanganj, Chittagong and other places which have transactions with garment factories will remain open for three hours on Tuesday to facilitate payment of wages and Eid bonus to workers.
The central bank issued a directive on Sunday in this connection and asked the commercial banks to keep their branches open on Tuesday which have transaction with the garment factories.
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) earlier urged the government to keep banks open during holidays ahead of Eid to help them pay salaries to garment workers.
