Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – BASIC Bank Limited has planned to launch minimum 25 new branches in the rural areas in the calendar year 2012.

BASIC Bank chairman Sheikh Abdul Hye Bacchu disclosed the target while addressing as the chief guest at a ceremony of launching 47th branch of the bank at Jhikargachha in Jessore on Monday.

Presided over by the bank’s Managing Director Kazi Faqurul Islam, the launching ceremony was attended, among others, by Jhikargachha municipality Mayor Mostafa Anwar Pasha, BASIC Bank’s deputy managing directors, high officials, local entrepreneurs, businessmen and well-wishers.

Sheikh Abdul Hye Bacchu said that country’s financial development, commerce and business would be accelerated, obtaining economic emancipation, if the banking services could be carried to the rural areas.

With that vision, the bank took initiative to open new branches at every upazila and district level of the country, the chairman said.

Since 100 per cent shares of the BASIC Bank was owned by the state, deposit at the bank was fully safe, he said, adding that people’s confidence was increasing on the bank day by day.
