Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– The central bank on Tuesday asked commercial banks not to collect fees in the form of pay order or bank draft from jobseekers, officials said.

Bangladesh Bank (BB) issued a circular in this connection on the day and asked the chief executives and managing directors of all 47 scheduled banks to take necessary measures in this regard.

Foreign commercial banks and some private commercial banks do not collect these fees from the jobseekers, which is commendable, the circular said.

“We’ve taken the move to encourage unemployed youths to apply for job in the banking sector and also because it is difficult to manage the fees,” a BB senior official said, adding that if an unemployed youth applies for job in three banks, he has to manage minimum BDT1,000.
