Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman said that diversification of Bangladesh’s export base into services such as Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) could lead to significant growth in foreign exchange inflows in the years ahead, and contribute to employment creation.

The central bank will do its part to provide the necessary support for the development of this industry which has flourished in India, Philippines and Sri Lanka, and is still at a very early stage in Bangladesh.

The central bank chief made these remarks during a meeting with Gurujot Singh Khalsa, CEO of a US based BPO company which plans to diversify part of its global operations to Bangladesh this year.

Ahmadul Hoq, founder President of the Bangladesh Association of Call Center and Outsourcing (BACCO) and Hassan Zaman, Senior Economic Adviser to the Governor participated in the discussions.
