Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Prices of 10 essential items out of 25 commodities increased in January this year compared to the previous month while five items declined and the rest remained unchanged.
Chilli (dry) price soared at the maximum rate by 12.50 per cent during the period followed by garlic 11.11 per cent, rice (medium) 9.52 per cent, egg 9.52 per cent, Soyabean oil 6.12 per cent, tea 6.12 per cent, pulses (moog dal) 5.60 per cent, wheat 3.45 per cent, atta (white) 2.78 per cent and sugar 1.79 per cent, a Bangladesh Bank (BB) report revealed on Monday.
“The central bank has prepared the report on the basis of data, collected from different markets in the city, to know the real market prices of the essential items,” a senior official of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) told BBN in Dhaka on Monday. 
During the period, the commodities, the prices of which have decreased, are potato by 37.50 per cent, onion 30.00 per cent, ginger 22.22 per cent, turmeric 6.06 per cent and fish (ruhi) 3.85 per cent. 
The prices of pulses (masur dal), rice (coarse), beef, chicken, mustard oil, milk powder, banana, salt, fresh cow milk and molasses remained unchanged in the the period under review.
