Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– The central bank is going to open a specialized customer service unit at its headquarters in the capital Dhaka on Thursday to ensure smoother banking services.
The unit, Customer Interest Protection Centre (CIPC), will allow customers to lodge complaints against the officials of any bank for the poor services or harassment they face in both urban and rural areas by phone, fax or email, a senior official of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) official said. 
He also said any customer can lodge complaint and get solution to any banking-related problem through dialing to the CIPC-number 16236, from any phone – land or cell phone.
The centre will help customers avail of proper services related to loan, LC (letter of credit) opening and any other banking services.
BB Governor Atiur Rahman will inaugurate the unit. 
If any bank doesn’t comply with the directives, punitive actions will be taken, the central bank warned. 
Meanwhile, the banks will have to have designated officers numbering one to five for the desk, the BB official added.
