Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The central bank of Bangladesh has taken a number of cautionary measures to check the spread of fake notes in markets centering the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitur festival.

As part of the measures, the central bank asked all commercial banks and branches of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) to keep alert on this issue, officials said.
“We’ve taken special measures to check spread of fake notes centering Eid,” a BB senior official told BBN in Dhaka on Wednesday.
He also said the central bank releases new notes ahead of each festival considering demand for money which encourages spread of fake notes.
The central bank will soon send letters to law enforcement agencies with request to cooperate with the bank to this end.
“We’re asking all commercial institutions whether they installed fake-note tracing machine and CCTV,” the central banker noted.

The BB has already started releasing new notes and it has a plan to release BDT 200 billion during the holy month of Ramadan and among them, BDT 90 billion new notes.
