Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The central bank will provide financial support to 1,000 diploma engineers from its refinancing scheme to set up their own enterprises.
Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Atiur Rahman made this announcement here on Wednesday at a workshop for the diploma engineers who are expected to set up their own venture in a year.
The Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) orgainsed the workshop jointly with the central bank and the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).
The workshop was a part of the BB supported Entrepreneurship and Innovation Expo project of DCCI, which is targeted to create 2,000 entrepreneurs. The IDEB last year signed a memorandum of understanding with DCCI to promote the project with creating a network of 1,000 entrepreneurs by 2015.
Addressing the programme, the governor lauded the IDEB's initiatives to create 1,000 entrepreneurs by 2105 and said they would get financial assistance for the BB's BDT 1.0 billion refinancing scheme.
He also reiterated his call to banks to come up with new products and initiatives to help create entrepreneurs.
Director General of Bangladesh Television M Hamid and former DCCI President Sabur Khan, who is also the current chairman of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Expo, addressed the inaugural session of the workshop, chaired by IDEB president AKMA Hamid.
