Mumbai, India (BBN)-Not only the players who carry a niggle but every single Indian player selected for the upcoming series against Bangladesh has to undergo a fitness test to prove the fitness.
The fitness test will take place on 6 June, a day after the squad assemblesbin Kolkata.
The first Test starts on 10 June in Fatullah and will be followed by three ODIs (18, 21 and 24 June), all in the same venue of Mirpur’s Home of Cricket.
We’ve seen so many players break down mid-tour in the recent past.
We want to ensure this doesn’t happen,” Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Anurag Thakur was quoted as saying in an Indian Express report.
It seems that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wants to send a fully fit squad for the Bangladesh series.
One can say that the BCCI is learning from its past mistakes and is quite pro-active with its approach.
During India’s last overseas tour, four Tests and a tri-series, which was followed by the World Cup in Australia, Ravindra Jadeja and Bhuvneshwar Kumar had to return home for rehab during the Test series.
Jadeja had been nursing a shoulder injury, while Bhuvneshwar had a bad ankle. Axar Patel and Dhawal Kulkarni were flown in as their replacements.
Meanwhile, it has been learnt that the coach or director and support staff for the Indian team will be appointed by June 6.
Team India will arrive here on June 5. There will be a fitness test on the next day and team will leave for Bangladesh on June 7.
The names of Team Director and support staff will be announced before that,” Thakur said after a closed door meeting at BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya’s residence
