Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The 67th founding anniversary of pro-Awami League Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the country’s one of the oldest student organisations, will be observed on Sunday in a befitting manner.

The BCL was founded on January 4, 1948.

Though it has a glorious past of playing a leading role in various movements for establishing the rights of people as well democracy in the country, the student body drew flak from various quarters for its violent role since 2009, including university campus violence, infighting, tender manipulation and silent extortion.

Elaborate programmes have been chalked out to mark the day. The programmes include cutting of cake at one minute past zero hours, hoisting of the national flag and party flag at the party office at 6:00am, placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32 in the capital Dhaka at 8:00 am (local time).

On the eve of its birthday, BCL organised a rally marking the day on the premises of Aparajeyo Bangla on the Dhaka University campus on Saturday.
