Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-The Bangladesh government has backtracked from its Sunday’s decision to withdraw all notes and coins of BDT 1 and BDT 2 denomination.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith revealed the fresh decision during a programme at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Monday morning.
Earlier on Sunday, the minister said all notes and coins of BDT 1 and BDT 2 denomination will be taken off from the market gradually.
The Bangladesh Bank has already set up L/C for importing papers from Germany to print notes of BDT 2 denomination, a BB official told the BBN.
Currently, the finance ministry as the custodian of the treasury, issues notes and coins of BDT 1.0 and BDT 2.0 denominations.
The rest from BDT 5.0 to BDT 1,000 are bank notes which are released by the Bangladesh Bank (BB), the country’s central bank.
