Depreciating mode of Bangladesh Taka continues

Bangladesh’s banks’ excess liquidity decreases slightly

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The depreciating mode of Bangladesh Taka (BDT) against the US dollar continued following higher demand for the greenback in the inter-bank foreign exchange market on Tuesday.
The exchange rate of the BDT against the US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 80.47 - BDT 80.48 at the evening transactions.
In the opening trading, the exchange rate of the local currency was also quoted that same that means at maximum BDT 80.48, gaining three paisa more from the previous working level.
“The ongoing depreciating mode of BDT may continue in the coming days due to higher demand for the greenback in the market for settlement of import-payment obligations,” a senior treasury official of a leading private commercial bank explained to the BBN Tuesday evening.
The greenback was quoted at maximum BDT 80.43 on Monday.
On Sunday, the American currency was quoted at maximum BDT 80.45, unchanged from the previous working level.
On the last working day of the last week, the US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 80.45 during the evening trading.
