Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The exchange rate of Bangladesh Taka (BDT) against the US dollar remained stable in early hours transactions on Tuesday in inter-bank foreign exchange (forex) market.
The US dollar was quoted at BDT 78.58 unchanged from the previous level.
“The BDT may depreciate slightly against the greenback by the end of the day,” a senior treasury official of bank hinted.
On the other hand, BDT lost nearly five paise against the US dollar at customer level on Monday due to higher demand for the greenback in the market.
The exchange rate of the US dollar at customer level rose to BDT 79.1746 on Monday from BDT 79.1237 of the previous working day. It was BDT 79.0577 on Sunday.
“Such upward trend of the US dollar against the BDT may continue in the coming days,” the treasury official added.
However, the inter-bank call money rate remained stable in the range between 2.25 per cent and 4.50 per cent on the day mainly due to sufficient inflow of fund into the market.
The volume of overall transactions in the inter-bank call money market rose to BDT 44.27 billion on Monday from BDT 45.18 billion of the previous level. It was BDT 47.28 billion on Sunday.
