BDT/US$ moves up, call money market remains stable

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The exchange rate of Bangladesh Taka (BDT) against the US dollar moved up slightly at customer level while the call money rate remained stable in early hour transactions on Monday.
The average exchange rate of US dollar rose to BDT 81.5953 for bill for collection (BC) on Sunday from BDT 81.5604 of the previous working day, according to the statistics of the Bangladesh Foreign Exchange Dealers Association (BAFEDA).
“The upward trend of BDT/US$ is continuing at the customer level,” a senior treasury official told BBN in Dhaka without elaborating.
However, the US dollar was quoted at BDT 80.60 unchanged from the previous level in the inter-bank foreign exchange market till the report was filed at 12:02 pm (local time).
On the other hand, the inter-bank call money rate remained stable in the range between 3.25 per cent and 4.50 per cent on Sunday from 1.80-4.50 per cent of the previous level due to sufficient inflow of fund into the market.
The volume of overall transactions in the inter-bank call money market came down to BDT 58.77 billion on the day from BDT 61.31 billion of the previous working day, according to the central bank latest statistics, released on Monday.
