Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The Bangladesh Taka (BDT) appreciated by 10 paisa against the US dollar in the inter-bank foreign exchange market in early hour transactions on Tuesday.
The US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 78.70 against BDT78.80 of the previous working day till the report was filed at 12:17 pm (local time).
“We’ve quoted the BDT/US$ at 78.70 in early deals,” a senior treasury official of a leading private commercial bank (PCB) told BBN in Dhaka.
The appreciating trend of BDT against the US currency may continue in the coming days, the treasury official hinted.
On the other hand, the local currency also appreciated by more than four paisa against the US dollar at customer level on Monday.
The average exchange rate of the US dollar at customer level came down to BDT 79.5269 on Monday from BDT 79.5673 of the previous level. It was BDT 79.6510 on Wednesday.
“The BDT/US$ rate at customer level may fall further immediately in the coming days following lower demand for the greenback in the market,” another treasury official of a leading commercial bank said.
However, the inter-bank call money rate remained stable in the range between 2.75 per cent and 4.50 per cent on the day mainly due to sufficient inflow of fund into the market.
The volume of overall transactions in the inter-bank call money market came down to BDT 49.07 billion from BDT 51.44 billion of the previous working day, according to the central bank latest statistics, released on Tuesday.
