Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The exchange rate of Bangladesh Taka (BDT) remained stable against the US currency in early hour transactions on Wednesday in inter-bank foreign exchange (forex) market.
The US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 78.85 against BDT 78.84-BDT 78.85 of the previous working day till the report was filed at 12:45 pm (local time).
“The exchange rate of local currency against the greenback remained unchanged due to lower demand for the US dollar in the inter-bank market,” a senior treasury official of a leading private commercial bank told BBN in Dhaka.
He also said the BDT also deprecated nearly one paisa against the US dollar at customer level on Monday.
The average exchange rate of the US dollar at customer level rose to BDT 79.8662 on Monday from BDT 79.8575 of the previous level. It was BDT 79.8400 on Thursday.
However, the inter-bank call money rate remained stable in the range between 2.25 per cent and 4.50 per cent on the day mainly due to sufficient inflow of fund into the market.
The volume of overall transactions in the inter-bank call money market rose to BDT 54.24 billion on Monday from BDT 51.43 billion of the previous working day, according to the central bank latest statistics, released on Wednesday.
