Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The Bangladesh Employers Federation (BEF) has called for an urgent joint meeting of all stakeholders to devise a plan to avert any devastating fire incident in future in the country’s readymade garments (RMG)industry.
"All stakeholders should sit together to find a solution to avert any fire incident in future," BEF President M Fazlul Hoque told reporters in the capital Dhaka on Tuesday.
He also said apparel buyers have already expressed concern over the Ashulia fire that might hurt the country's economy slightly.
Mr. Hoque, also former President of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), said the government as a guardian should take the initiative to hold a meeting with the stakeholders.
The two-hour closed-door meeting was held with US Ambassador in Dhaka Dan W Mozena in the conference room of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) in Dhaka.
Among others, President of International Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh (ICCB) Mahbubur Rahman and MCCI secretary general Farooq Ahmed were present at the meeting.
