Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh Furniture and Interior Decor (BFID) Expo 2013 will begin on Thursday at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital Dhaka  with a view to attracting the foreign buyers.
“This is for the second time we are organising the fair where the local companies will display furniture and different home décor items in the BFID,” Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Vice Chairman Shubhasish Bose said.
“We want to reduce dependency on selected export items like readymade garments, frozen foods, leather and boost other items. This fair will help to pave the way,” he said this at a press conference on ‘BFID Expo 2013’ at EPB head office in the city.
The expo will be jointly organised by EPB, Bangladesh Furniture Exporters Association, Banglacraft, Bangladesh Jute Diversified Products Manufacturers and Exporters Association and Bangladesh Furniture Industries Owners Association.
Mr Bose said: “At this moment we are exporting 705 items to 208 countries across the globe. As per the government policy, we are focusing on diversified products. If we can boost the comparatively less important items, it will help create job opportunity.”
Commerce Minister Ghulam Mohammad Quader, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Md Faruk Khan and Industries Minister Dilip Barua are expected to attend the inaugural ceremony of BFID Expo 2013, the organizers said.
Around 50 local companies will take part in the fair. Besides, 30 foreign buyers will visit the expo and the organisers will provide free accommodation, transportation and food to them.
The fair will remain open from 10 am to 8 pm till July 20 for the visitors.
