Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) will start distribution of wages among the workers of Tuba Group from Wednesday.

“We’ll start distribution of salaries from Wednesday at 9.30 am” Shahidullah Azim, vice-president of BGMEA, said on Monday.

Mr. Azim said although BGMEA is not supposed to provide the agitating workers of Tuba Group with dues, but the association will give them their arrears in a bid to avert labour unrest and considering humanitarian ground. “We hope that the agitating workers will come to the BGMEA Bhaban tomorrow to take their salaries.”

On Tuesday morning, police charged batons on the demonstrating workers when they tried to lay siege to the BGMEA Bhaban at Kawranbazar in the city.

In face of the police resistance, the workers held a rally blocking the BGMEA entrance and left the area after two hours.

Around 1,600 workers of Tuba Group went on fast-unto-death on the seventh floor of the factory housed at Hossain at Pragati Sarani since July 28, demanding their arrears.
