Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bibi Russell, one of the most prominent fashion designers of Bangladesh, has been invited to Rajasthan of India to create a modern and internationally appealing interpretation of their heritage.
She was invited as state guest of Rajasthan government to support the artisans and crafts people of Rajasthan.
During her stay there, she will help the artisans and crafts people to preserve their heritage, innovate and sustain a decent livelihood, said a press statement of Indian High Commission in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Bibi Russell’s visit is part of a project to create a modern and internationally appealing interpretation of heritage Rajasthani textiles, and to give a boost to the community of weavers, dyers, printers and craftsmen of Rajasthan, the statement added.
Rajasthan Khadi and Gram Udyog Board, on behalf of the Rajasthan government sent the invitation to Bibi Russell that she had accepted.
The Rajasthan Khadi and Village Industries Board along with two other designers are scheduled to organise an exhibition in Jaipur of Rajasthan on April 26 to fulfill their initiative.
Vasundhara Raje, chief minister of Rajasthan, will grace the occasion as the chief guest of the event.
In the exposition, Bibi Russell’s works will also be showcased.
Bibi Russell, through her endeavours as a fashion designer, has given Bangladeshi weavers and artisans an opportunity to utilise their skills and talents to achieve economic independence and build a prosperous future.
Her work has been internationally recognised and she has received several prestigious awards from around the world.
