Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has called a countrywide dawn-to-dusk hatral (general strike) on Sunday in protest against the government’s ‘illegal attempt’ to evict its Chairperson Khaleda Zia from her residence in Dhaka Cantonment.

BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain announced the general strike at a press briefing held at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the capital Dhaka Saturday afternoon.

Delwar said the hartal was also called to protest the police attack on spontaneous BNP processions throughout the country on Saturday as police and RAB cordoned off Khaleda’s 6, Shaheed Mainul Road cantonment house.

He also said the shutdown will also be enforced against police actions on BNP demonstrators in Sirajganj on the day, leaving one activist wounded with bullet.
