Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has called a dawn-to-dusk general strike in the capital on Sunday to protest the split of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) into two parts.

The announcement came a day after the national parliament passed a law to split the DCC into DCC North and DCC South.

BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced a series of programs including the strike at a press briefing at the party chairperson’s Gulshan office in Dhaka Wednesday night.

The other programs are demonstration in front of BNP central office at Nayapaltan in Dhaka at 3:00pm (local time) on December 2 and demonstrations at ward level in the Dhaka city on December 3.
