Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The BNP and its front and associate organisations in its 33rd founding anniversary on Thursday vowed to ‘restore democracy’ in the country.

On this very day in 1978, then President Ziaur Rahman founded the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

BNP has taken elaborate programmes to mark the anniversary.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia along with the party leaders and workers placed wreaths at the grave of its founder in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and offered fateha there.

A large number of leaders and workers of the party’s front and associate organisations, also paid tributes to the BNP’s late founder.

After placing wreaths on the grave, BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “The key challenge of the BNP now is to restore democracy and consolidate the country’s independence and sovereignty.”

He also said democracy is now at stake in the country.
