Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was celebrated its 34th founding anniversary across the country with holding various programs on Saturday. 
Late president Ziaur Rahman formed BNP on this day in 1978 with a 19-point program aiming to build a self-reliant Bangladesh.
The party added a new dimension to the country’s politics introducing the ideology of ‘Bangladeshi Nationalism’ with the key slogan of ‘politics of development and production’.
To mark the day, the national and party flags have been hoisted atop all the offices of BNP and its associate organizations in the morning.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia flanked by several hundred leaders and activists of the party placed wreaths and offered fateha at the grave of party founder Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital Dhaka at 11am on the day.
Later, a special prayer was offered there seeking salvation of the departed soul of the late BNP founder.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and acting secretary-general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in separate messages greeted party men on the occasion.
