BNP chairperson moves to new house next month

Last updated: February 21, 2011

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - BNP Chairperson Khaelda Zia is shifting her furniture and valuables to a house at the capital's Gulshan, said party insiders.

The leader of the opposition, who is now staying at her younger brother's Gulshan house, may move into the new house within the second week of next month, they said.

“I hope preparations will be completed by the first week of March and then madam [Khaleda] will move there,” one of her personal aides was quoted by The Daily Star, a local newspaper, as saying.

Her personal staff and domestic helps are looking after the decoration and interior design of the house which belongs to Tanveer Islam, son of former state minister Maj (retd) Quamrul Islam, the newspaper reported quoting sources.

After leaving her former house at Dhaka Cantonment on November 13 Khaleda was looking for a house. She has chosen Tanveer's house to live.

Some senior leaders of the party, however, expected her to take the official residence at the city's Mintoo road. But Khaleda declined the offer, the newspaper said.

Khaleda lost the cantonment house on Shahid Mainul Road following a legal battle.
