Chittagong, Bangladesh (BBN) - The bodies of seven Bangladeshis who were killed in the Abu Dhabi road crash on February 4 arrived in the country’s port city Chittagong on Sunday morning.
A flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BG-028) carrying the seven bodies touched the tarmac of Shah Amanat International Airport around 8:30am, a police official confirmed.
The seven deceased were identified as Khorshed Alam and his brother Masud Rana, sons of Idris Miah of Raozan upazila; Borhanuddin, son of Shah Alam of Anwara upazila; and Md Hashem, son of Ali Hossain, Md Arif, son of Abdul Ghoni, Sirajul Islam son of late Nazir Miah, and Md Alauddin, son of Abdul Motaleb of Fatikchhari upazila in Chittagong.
An official of the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment received the bodies at the airport Sunday morning and handed those over to the victims' family members and relatives.
He also distributed a cheque of BDT 35,000 to the each family of all the all victims as burial cost.
Additional BDT 200,000 will also be donated from the government’s fund to the each family later, the ministry sources said.
A total of 22 people died and 24 were injured when a bus carrying the workers collided with a truck filled with construction materials at Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates on February 4. Among the deceased, 19 were Bangladeshi.
The rest 12 bodies will reach the country by February 13, officials said.
