Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Nicholas Dean attended a ceremony with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Wednesday to celebrate the delivery of the first Boeing 777-300ER aircraft to Biman Bangladesh Airline.

This delivery, Biman’s first-ever acquisition of a brand-new aircraft, will enable Biman to begin the renewal of its aircraft fleet as part of a program to reform Bangladesh’s national carrier and expand its services.

The delivery is part of a $1.2 billion sales agreement signed with Boeing in 2008 for 10 aircraft deliveries between 2011 and 2019.

“A second aircraft will be delivered in November 2011 with two more deliveries planned for 2013,” a US embassy press statement said.

These aircraft, and the 787 Dreamliners that Biman also plans to acquire, showcase Boeing’s leadership in aviation technology.  The U.S. Export-Import Bank provided loan guarantees that helped to minimize financing costs for Biman.
