Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Chittagong Kings brightened their semifinals prospect as they registered an exciting win over Dhaka Gladiators by 13 runs in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital Dhaka on Friday.
Chittagong Kings owe their success to a brilliant all round performance by their West Indian recruit Dwayne Bravo who was later adjudged as man of the match.
Chasing the small target of 121 set by Chittagong Kings who batted first, Dhaka Gladiators faced early batting jolt and managed 107 runs in quota 20 overs for the loss of nine wickets.
While chasing a small target of 121 runs in 20 overs Dhaka Gladiators from the word go landed into trouble as wickets fell at regular interval making the simple target look a mountain to climb. As the wicket was slow and the ball was not coming to bat, Dhaka batsmen instead playing on the ground tried to loft the ball and paid the price.
Chittagong Kings raced to top to join Khulna Royal Bengal's (10) at the points table with ten points from eight matches while Dhaka Gladiators had to remain languishing at the fifth position with their previous credit six points from the same number of outings.
Middle order batsman Anamul Haque top scored run-a- ball 22 runs with two fours while opener Mohammad Ashraful added 20 runs off 28 balls hitting one four.
Besides, Pakistani recruit Azhar Mahmood (12) English batsman Darren Stevens (12) and wicket keeper Dhiman Ghosh (11) were the other notable scorers for Dhaka Gladiators.
West Indies recruit medium pacer Kevon Cooper was best among the Chittagong lot with three wickets conceding 13 runs while spinner Enamul Haque Jr. and Dwayne Bravo chipped in with two wickets each conceding 15 and 21 runs respectively. Dwayne Bravo of West Indies was adjudged the player of the match for his all round show.
Earlier, Elias Sunny's mesmerizing spell restricted Chittagong Kings to a 120 for 6 in stipulated 20 overs after being asked to bat first. Only three Chittagong Kings batsmen - opener, Jahurul Islam one down Jason Roy and number two batsman Dwayne Bravo manage to reach the double digits against some disciplined bowling attacks by some Dhaka Gladiators bowlers.
