British minister praises democracy, human rights in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Visiting British Minister for South Asia, Foreign and Commonwealth Office Alistair Burt has commended the achievements of the present government in Bangladesh towards democracy, human rights, socio-economic development and progress in achieving MDGs and addressing climate change.
Burt, who arrived in the capital Dhaka on Monday on a three-day visit made the appreciation during a meeting with Foreign Minister Dipu Moni at her ministry.
Dipu Moni thanked the United Kingdom for the continuous support and assistance extended to Bangladesh as well as to her government, especially those rendered during the 2008 general elections making it a success.
During the meeting, they discussed various issues of bilateral relations, issues of human rights, modernization of electoral system in Bangladesh and cooperation in fighting terrorism.
The British minister expressed his happiness on the success of Bangladesh in these fronts.
Dipu Moni told Burt that the present government here is trying its best to strengthen democracy at all level of the State.
