New Delhi, India (BBN)-On the occasion of the 66th Republic Day celebration, troops of the Border Security Force (BSF), stationed along the India-Bangladesh border at Akhaura exchanged sweets with their Bangladeshi counterparts.
Commandant Chitra Pal of the BSF exchanged sweets with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) official Ali Subedar Arshad with the latter greeting him on the occasion, reports Zee News.
“As India is celebrating 66th Republic Day, on this happy occasion we have given sweets to the border guards of our friendly neighbour Bangladesh in the Agartala check post.
We have good cooperation and jointly conduct operations with the BGB so that we can maintain peace on both sides of the border. This also brings closer both the forces,” Pal said.
The gesture was equally reciprocated by BGB officials and jawans.
To enhance bilateral relations, exchange of sweets between the two countries along the border is an old and traditional gesture to show goodwill between the two nations and has been in practice for many years now.
Ali Arshad of Border Guard Bangladesh said, “India and Bangladesh are very friendly nations and relation is very cordial. BSF and BGB always work jointly and we do not any difference. India is a friendly and big nation and we work together. Be is smuggling or drug peddling we work together to stop them and BSF helps us to catch them. I wish my heartiest greeting to all Indians on this occasion.”
