Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The call money rate eased slightly on Wednesday, the fourth working day after the Eid-ul-Fitr festival, as market is yet to witness higher level of commercial activities, treasury officials said.
"The inter-bank call rate eased slightly on the day after increase in flow of liquidity in the banking system," a senior treasury official of a leading commercial bank told BBN in Dhaka.
He also said the flow of liquidity would increase shortly due to refund of the cash, which were withdrawn before the Eid festival, in the banking system.
“The call rate may ease further soon,” the treasury official said without elaborating.
The inter-bank call rate ranged between 15.00 per cent and 18.00 per cent on the day against the previous day’s range between 18.00 per cent and 20.00 per cent.
However, most of the deals were settled at rates varying between 15.00 per cent and 16.00 per cent, the market operators said.
In the foreign exchange market, the Bangladesh Taka (BDT) appreciated marginally against the US dollar due mainly to lower demand for the greenback.
The US dollar was quoted at BDT 74.00-BDT 74.15 in the inter-bank foreign exchange market on Wednesday against BDT 74.13 –BDT 74.20 of the previous working day, according to the central bank statistics.
