Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Conferences of the chief anti-money laundering compliance officials, generally known as CAMLCOs, of the all commercial banks and small and medium entrepreneurs will be held at Cox’s Bazaar on Friday.
Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Dr. Atiur Rahman arrived at the country’s beach city on Thursday to inaugurate two conferences, AFM Asaduzzaman, general manager general of the governor’s secretariat told BBN from Cox’s Bazaar over phone.
He also said the central bank will instruct the banks at the conference for taking the highest level of precautionary measures so that no one can use the banking channel for terror financing both at home and aboard.
“We may also ask the banks for taking effective measures to comply with rule and regulations of the Anti Money Laundering (AML) and Combating Financing of Terrorism (CFT) issues properly to check illegal fund transferred,” he noted.
At the conference, the bankers may be instructed to submit suspicious transaction report (STR) and cash transaction report (CTR) to the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) of the central bank timely to help curbing money laundering and financing of terrorism.
“We expect that our honorable governor will advice the banks to expedite the ongoing financial inclusion programmes across the country through strengthening financing in SME entrepreneurs particularly women ones,” Mr. Asaduzzaman noted.
Meanwhile, nearly 500 senior officials and executives of all commercial banks along with women entrepreneurs have already arrived in the beach city to participate the conferences.
