Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– The cardholders of a bank will have to pay maximum BDT 15 instead of existing BDT 10 for each transaction using ATM (Automated Teller Machine) booths of other banks, officials said.
The revised charge will come into effect from February 1, 2015, according to a circular, issued by the Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Tuesday.
Under the revised charge, the card issuer bank will have to pay BDT 5.0 as subsidy instead of the existing BDT 10 for each ‘off-us’ transaction to the card acquiring bank for using ATM booth.
Off-us transaction means card of a bank charging on other bank’s ATM booths.
“The central bank has revised the charge on inter-bank ATM transaction after taking into account the interests of both banks and clients,” a BB senior official explained.
The commercial banks earlier requested the BB for re-fixing the charge on inter-bank ATM transaction at BDT 20 from existing BDT 10, he added.
The charge will be applicable for the banks which are members of the National Payment Switch Bangladesh (NPSB), introduced on December 27, 2012.
Currently, 32 commercial banks are members of the NPSB.
