Cattle prices mark fall in Bangladesh’s capital markets

Last updated: October 26, 2012
Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Cattle prices felt significantly in the capital city markets due mainly to increase supply of sacrificial animals on Friday just a day ahead of the Holy Eid-ul-Azha set for Saturday.
The sale of sacrificial animals soared in all 20 cattle markets in the capital, including the permanent one at Gabtoli in the capital.
Though there were crowds of buyers, cattle prices started dropping due to increased supply, forcing many traders to incur loss. Several traders couldn't sell their bulls at their expected profits while some others even swallowed some loss.
On the other hand, many traders were waiting with the hope to maximize their profit in last moment sale on Friday.
"I've sold a small sized cow at BDT 17,500 which was sold at least BDT 22,000 on Wednesday,” a cattle trader told BBN in Dhaka, adding that the prices of cattle dropped on the day because of increasing the supple of sacrificial animals significantly.
