Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The central bank will unveil two commemorative coins soon in remembrance of 40 years of writing of ‘Bidrohi’ poem by national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and the 40th anniversary of the Independence, Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Atiur Rahman said on Saturday  

“The central bank will also unveil BDT 50 bank note with illustrious artist Jainul Abedin’s painting on the note to honour him by October this year,” the central bank chief said while addressing a book launching ceremony at a city hotel.

The book “Cowri to Taka: Evolution of Coins and Currencies of Bangladesh’ mainly initiated and written by Siddique Mahmudur Rahman. The co-authors are M Muhibullah, M Jahirul Islam, Syeed bin Salam, Anup Kumar Saha and Abdus Samad.

The BB governor said the coins and currencies carry the history, culture, tradition and education of the nation. The new generation can be benefited enormously from this book that introduces a complete history and evolution of coins and currencies of the country.

He also requested historians and coin collectors to come forward to enrich the stock of BB’s currency museum providing both coins and information.

Noted jurists Barrister Rafiqul Haque said the book is the great documentation of the coins and currencies of Bangladesh.
