Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - China will construct road and railway link between Chittagong and Kunming via Burma, officially known as Myanmar, to boost Sino-Bangladesh cooperation.

Assistant Minister for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Liu Zhen, told visiting Bangladeshi State Minister for Environment and Forests, Dr Hasan Mahmud, at a meeting in Beijing on Friday, according to a message received in Dhaka.

Liu proposed to enhance cooperation between the two friendly countries in the fields of trade, transportation and climate change issues.

He showed keen interest in the development of road and rail communication between Chittagong and Kunming, capital of Yunnan province in China.

Dr Hasan emphasised the urgency of development of the planned deep-sea port in Sonadia, Cox's Bazar and sought support of the Chinese government in this regard.

The two ministers agreed that the proposed deep-sea port would offer an opening to sea to the Yunnan region of China.

Dr Hasan, who is now in an official visit to China, is leading a six-member delegation that includes Vice-chancellor of BRAC University, Dr Ainun Nishat, and Awami League Organising Secretary, Ahmed Hossain.
