Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Citibank NA Bangladesh has launched two new community projects to facilitate education for underprivileged children in the country.
Michael Zink, head of ASEAN of Citibank NA and Citi Country Officer, Singapore, launched the projects at a city hotel on Sunday.
Mr Zink said Citi always emphasised on improving ‘financial literacy’ of the people under its activities of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Of the two projects, one will provide pre-tech education to 346 underprivileged children, officials said.
To implement the project, Citi Bangladesh partnered with the Underprivileged Children’s Education Programme (UCEP). Citi Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Citi, is funding the $30,000 project.
Under the project, children of 14 to 16 years will be enrolled in the pre-tech course for six months. The course will be implemented in 4 UCEP Integrated General and Vocational (IGV) schools in Dhaka region, Farah Rahman of the bank said while making a presentation on the projects.
The course will take a holistic approach to develop youth workforces by imparting essential skills such as financial and entrepreneurial management, social and health skills, networking, and creative problem solving, she said.
During their six-month pre-tech education, the children will have improved financial literacy, practical mathematics and communicative English skills, the official said.
