Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Citi organized a one-day roundtable in Hong Kong on the Outlook of Sourcing in Bangladesh, Potential for Growth, Key Opportunities and Requirements recently.
 This was to create a platform for brain storming the issues that the country and the industry face. The program was attended by eminent speakers from Bangladesh and overseas.
Dr. Hassan Zaman, Senior Adviser to Governor Bangladesh Bank discussed Bangladesh Economy, Infrastructure, Human Capital, Country Outlook. 
He has stressed upon the facts that the last decade (FY2000-FY2010) has witnessed strong growth, more than doubling in per capita income, increase in foreign currency reserve, steady expansion in lending to the private sector, massive consolidation of external government debt and a material decline in the fiscal deficit.
Nick Debnam, Regional Chairman, Consumer Markets Practice, KPMG Asia Pacific talked about product sourcing from Asia. 
He mentioned that rising costs and a tightening labour market are leading global consumer markets executives to reassess their sourcing strategies and explore new locations across Asia, including Bangladesh.
Arshad Jamal Dipu, Chairman, Tusuka Group, and Director of Research and Policy of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) presented a snapshot of progresses made, opportunities and challenges faced by the Ready-made Garments industry.
In the second part of the event, a panel was formed with Christophe Bataille, Finance Director, Tesco International Sourcing Ltd, Thomas Nelson, Managing Director, VF Corporation Asia, Arshad Jamal Dipu and Dr. Hassan Zaman.
