Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- City Bank dominated week’s turnover chart of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) last week that ended on Thursday as investors were active on its shares.
Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stood at nearly BDT nearly 36 billion on the DSE, which was 18.61 percent lower than the week before.
The most active shares in terms of value included City Bank, IFAD Autos, Brac Bank, LankaBangla Finance, Dhaka Bank, Exim Bank, BBS Cables, UCB, Grameenphone and Shahjalal Islami Bank.
According to the statistics available with the DSE, about 53.90 million shares of City Bank were traded, generating a turnover of nearly BDT 1.84 billion during the week. It was 5.13 percent of the week’s total turnover.
The daily average turnover of the company was BDT 368 million.
The bank’s share price closed at BDT 53.90 on Thursday, the last trading day of the week, advancing 10.68 percent over the previous week.
The bank’s consolidated earnings per share (EPS) stood at BDT 0.91 for July-September, 2017 as against BDT 0.48 for July-September, 2016.
In nine months for January-September period of 2017, consolidated EPS was BDT 3.09 for January-September, 2017 as against BDT 2.78 for January-September, 2016. Consolidated NOCFPS was BDT (16.74) for January-September, 2017 as against BDT (0.83) for January-September, 2016.
City Bank, which was listed on the Dhaka bourse in 1986, disbursed 24 percent cash dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2016.
The bank’s paid-up capital is BDT 9.22 billion and authorised capital is BDT 15 billion, while the total number of securities is 921.89 million.
Sponsor-directors own 30.12 percent stake in the bank, while institutional investors own 18.51 percent, foreign investors 16.16 percent and the general public 35.20 percent as on September 30, 2017, the DSE data shows.
City Bank was, closely followed IFAD Autos, with shares of BDT 1.21 billion changing hands, followed by Brac Bank BDT 1.0 billion, LankaBangla BDT 994 million, Dhaka Bank BDT 926 million and Exim Bank BDT 910 million.
BBS Cables was also included in the week’s top turnover chart with shares of Tk 896 million changing hands, followed by UCB Tk 789 million, Grameenphone BDT 784 million and Shahjalal Islami Bank BDT 744 million.
