Barisal, Bangladesh (BBN) – Barisal University formally starts function on Tuesday, university officials said.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid will inaugurate the classes of first batch in six subjects under four faculties for 2011-’12 academic session on its temporary campus at Barisal Zilla School at 10:30 am (local time), Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Harunor Rashid Khan said.

Classes will be held at the temporary campus till construction of the permanent campus on 50-acre land on the eastern bank of the Kirtonkhola River under Sadar upazila. It is likely to be completed by the end of 2013.

The minister will also lead a colourful rally from the premises of Ashwani Kumar Hall in the city.

Four hundred students will be able to study at the university. Of them, 65 students will study in Bangla department, 65 in English, 65 in Economics, 65 in Social Science, 70 in Marketing, and 70 in Business Studies, they added.
