Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Almost half of Dhaka WASA (Water Supply and Sewerage Authority) clients have been paid their bills using online and mobile billing system since last one and half years, officials said.
“Around 50 per cent clients are now familiar with the online and mobile banking systems,” a Dhaka WASA official said, adding that they are paying around 45 per cent of the total water bills through online billing and rest of comes from mobile.
The total number of households or consumers of the Dhaka City Corporation and Narayanganj City Corporation and adjacent areas is 300,000.
The official also said the Dhaka WASA started mobile billing system since July 2010 with Citycell (Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Limited) and Robi Axiata Limited. And after that Dhaka Wasa automated its billing system in October 2010.
At the end of the 2010 Dhaka WASA have started online banking with the South East Bank Limited and now the clients are able to pay bills through 200 branches of nine banks.
The banks are — South East Bank Limited, Pubali Bank Limited, United Commercial Bank Limited, Islami Bank Limited, Mutual Trust Bank Limited, Premier Bank Limited, One Bank Limited, Social Islami Bank Limited and Trust Bank Limited. 
A client may pay his or her water bill in any branch of these banks and instantly the information is sent to the central server of Dhaka WASA.
