Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– The energy ministry has asked the CNG filling stations to suspend operations for six hours, beginning at 3:00pm everyday, to help divert gas for power generation.
The order comes into effect from Thursday. Until Wednesday, CNG stations used to remain closed between 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm.
The ministry took decisions at a meeting held at the secretariat in the capital Dhaka on Wednesday.
“We’ve taken this decision mainly to ensure nonstop supply of electricity from 11pm to 7:00 am every day during the peak Boro- irrigation period. This order will remain effective for the next two months from Thursday,” said energy adviser to the Prime Minister Tawfiq-E- Elahi Chowdhury after the meeting.
Currently, 535 CNG filling stations are in operation across the country.
The ministry has also taken steps to ensure generation of the highest 6000-megawatt (MW) electricity on Thursday to enable the countrymen to watch the final match of Asia Cup cricket between Bangladesh and Pakistan.
