Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Cold spell claimed lives of seven people in the country’s two northern districts in the last four days ending early Thursday.

Cold spell over the last three days claimed lives of two elderly people in at Dimla upazila under Nilpharmari district where mercury dipped below 8 degrees Celsius on Thursday morning.

Chairman of Purbo Chhatnai Union Parishad (UP) Abdul Latif Khan said Ansar Ali (70) of Ward No 4 at Teestarchar village died from cold-related diseases Tuesday night while neighboring Goyabari UP chairman said Sahera Khatun (85) of Ward No 3 breathed her last giving in to the biting cold Wednesday night.

In Kurigram, five people died from cold-related diseases in Phulbari, Ulipur and sadar upazilas (sub-districts) in the last four days ending early Thursday, according to reports.
